The Hammond Area YMCA strengthens the foundations of our community through well-being and fitness, camps, family time, swim, sports and play, and other activities for people of all ages, incomes and abilities. Child Care While Mom or Dad Work Out
The Kid’s Zone provides child care for the convenience of our members while they are working out. Child care is free for family members. Our qualified staff provides a safe, clean, and friendly environment to ensure both parents and children have an enjoyable time while they are at the YMCA.
We have toys, games, books, puzzles, videos, and play equipment that is age appropriate for all children.
Kid's Zone Rules
- Children must be no younger than six months and no older than seven years.
- Children must have shoes on while in the Kid’s Zone.
- Snacks or drinks are not allowed in Kid’s Zone.
- Staff is not responsible for diaper changing.
- Staff may refuse service to any child for suspected illness or disciplinary problems.
- Relatives and Babysitters are not permitted to bring other children.
- Children may not be in Kid’s Zone for more than three consecutive hours.
- Membership ID is required for drop-off and pick-up.
Special Activity Programs For Youth
Staff Members, Derek Alford and Vince Johnson, will conduct age appropriate activities for above age children who are not in programs while their parents are using the facility. Derek will conduct & supervise activities Monday thru Friday, 4-8 pm for children 7-14 yrs.

Before and After School Child Care for Hammond Schools
The Hammond Branch YMCA offers convenient, affordable, safe and dependable child care for working parents in schools throughout Hammond & Whiting (see school list below). Before and After School Care is offered for children in grades K-5. Half-Day Care (Y-Pals) is also available for Kindergarten students in AM & PM classes. Care is offered on school vacation days for grades K- 8 at the Hammond Branch YMCA.

Before & After Child Care Available March 5th: We will be offering extended day care on March 5th from 6:30 a.m. until 6:15 p.m. Cost: $25 for members / $45 for non-members. See front desk for details.

Y-Pals: Kindergarten Care
We provide care for kindergarten students before & after their half-day at school. Y-Pals provides an environment especially geared to the safety, happiness and well-being of your child. Supervised playtime activities, crafts and swimming are included. Children should bring a sack lunch with them each day. Y-Pals care is available to Hammond Schools only.
Cost: $90 Weekly (flat fee)
