Our Promise

We build strong kids, strong families, strong communities.

Our History

The Hammond Area YMCA was accepted into the State and National Council of
YMCA'S in 1958 under the leadership of it's first president Jack Osborne.  The
Hammond YMCA was originally located in the Yale building in downtown
Hammond and later moved to an historic house on Hohman Avenue in 1961.  In
1969 the Board of Directors purchased the land where the YMCA is currently
located.  Ground breaking ceremonies were held at the new building site on
September 17, 1971 and the building was completed and ready for dedication on
September 10, 1972.  In the fall of 1976 the swimming pool and exercise studio
were opened.  Over the past fifty years the Hammond Area YMCA has responded
to the needs of the community by adding aquatic programs, youth sports, and
childcare programs.  Through these and all other programs the Hammond Area
YMCA continues its commitment to develop the mind, body, and spirit of all the
members.
